Aviawest Cycling Society News
Did you know that Aviawest sponsors a group of master cycling and fitness enthusiasts who provide coaching support and develop projects and programs for young competitive cyclists?
The Aviawest Cycling Society is a not-for-profit organization that has provided many young up-and-coming cyclists in Victoria with the financial support they need to develop their talents and become successful competitive cyclists.
Here are just a few of the recent achievements of our sponsored Victoria, BC cyclists:
Ryan Anderson - Spent three days in the KOM jersey at Tour of California, three days at the Espoir World Championships and won the first edition of the Sidney Twilight Grand Prix/Oak Bay Criterium. Ryan has raced the last two years with the US-based professional team Kelly Benefits Strategies.
Nic Hamilton - Won the Tour Walla Walla this year and placed second at the Provincial Championships in Sooke last weekend. Nic rides for Trek Red Truck.
Craig Logan - Won five BC Provincial Junior Championship events and is currently in Europe training with the National Team.
Annie Ewart - Won six BC Provincial Junior Championships and has just returned from a National Team Project.
All of the riders mentioned above and Marsh Cooper of Kelly Benefits are currently volunteering as mentors of younger riders and guest ride leaders.
In other cycling news, Aviawest is now a partner of the newly-opened Victoria Cycling Academy. This junior-specific training centre is based out of the new Pacific Institute for Sports Excellence at the Camosun College Interurban Campus and is run in partnership with Cycling BC and the Canadian Sports Centre.
The Academy is presently supporting 18 road and mountain bike races for junior riders aged 12-18 from Victoria, BC.
